The people who build a company are the hardest to find.

Recruise has spent twenty years finding them, the rare senior leaders who never surface in a generalist search, and making sure the hire lasts. That is the whole job, and it has the record to prove it.

Sachith Rai, MD and Founder of Recruise
Sachith Rai · MD and Founder, Recruise · Bengaluru, 2006.

The short version is a number. The real version is a story.

The number is 94% retention since 2014. The story is how a firm built the habits that produce a number like that. It runs in six chapters, from a quality engineer in 2006 to the ledger Recruise keeps today.

Six chapters, 2006 to today.

  1. 2006

A quality engineer walks into recruitment.

Sachith spent fifteen years in operational quality at Tata, HP, and HGS before he ever placed a candidate. When he started Recruise in Bengaluru, he brought the only discipline he knew: map the process, then measure what comes out the other end.

  2. The early years

Building the muscle before the proof.

Recruise placed, tracked, and kept records most firms throw away. The habit that would become the Record started here, in the decision to write down what happened after a placement, not just that one was made.

  3. The hard ones

The roles two other firms had already returned.

The work that built Recruise's name was the work nobody else wanted. Biostatisticians handed back as unfillable. A Partner-level placement into Japan. A CTO the market said did not exist. Recruise took them because a systems thinker sees a hard mandate as a mapping problem, not a luck problem. Most of them, it filled.

  4. 2014

The year it started keeping the Record.

A firm has to decide what it is willing to be judged on. From 2014, Recruise tracked every senior leader it placed, for years after they joined, against one question: did they stay.

  5. The builds

    Building GCCs from zero.

The proudest work is the build work. Recruise took one global pharma GCC from 0 to 500 over four years, and scaled a research and advisory team from single digits to roughly 600. A retail GCC is building now, from 50 to 300, after a healthcare build of around 300 hires between 2018 and 2022.

  6. Today

Twenty years, one question, one ledger.

The firm is the same instinct it started with. Map before you move. Measure what you ship. Tell the truth about the result. Now it can prove it, because it kept the record of every senior hire and what became of them. That ledger has a name.

The Rare-Hire Record

Twenty years of answering one question honestly gave Recruise something most search firms cannot show. It is called The Rare-Hire Record: every senior hire it has made since 2014, and what became of each one.

Data without judgment is noise. Judgment without data is guesswork. The work lives at the intersection, and most firms never get there.
Sachith Rai · MD and Founder

He is just as quick to say what Recruise will not claim: it does not place C-suite at scale. What it stands on is retention, the teams it has built from zero, and a read on the senior market a generalist cannot match.

What makes Recruise, Recruise

Twenty years produced a way of working. It spells clear.

C

Courageous

We choose the harder right over the easier wrong. We speak up when something needs saying, and we'd rather have the uncomfortable conversation than let a bad decision stand.

L

Long-term Thinkers

We build for what lasts. We make decisions we'd be glad to stand behind years from now, and we measure ourselves by what endures.

E

Empathetic

We put people before process, always. We lead with understanding, treat everyone we work with as a whole person, and never lose sight of the human decision behind every professional one.

A

Antifragile

We grow through what we're tested by. Hard moments sharpen us, and we come out of every difficult stretch better than we went in.

R

Relentless

We never settle. We push past good enough, hold ourselves to a higher standard than anyone asks of us, and keep going long after the easy option would have us stop.

Leadership

The people who keep the Record.

A founder started it. A team runs it now, and holds the standard the story is built on.

Why "Let's build what's next."

Look across two decades of Recruise mandates and the same shape keeps appearing. A company is building something that did not exist before, a new function, a new centre, a capability nobody has yet, and it needs the rare people who can build it. The hire was never the point. The point was always what the hire let the company build next.

One of those builds went from 0 to 500. At the time it was simply the work. Looking back, it was the whole idea in miniature: find the rare people, and something new gets built.

That is what Let's build what's next. means. It is not an ambition Recruise is reaching for. It is a description of what it has already done, a few hundred builds over.

Let's build what's next.
